Highlights of the Program are as follows:
First-time home buyers are eligible for up to $8,000. First-time buyers are defined as any buyer who has not owned a principal residence during the three-year period prior to the purchase. Repeat Buyers are eligible for up to $6,500. Repeat Buyers are defined as any buyer who has owned and lived in their principal residence for 5 consecutive years out of the last 8 years.
There are income limitations tied to the Tax Credit, limits for single taxpayers is $125,000 – the limit is $225,000 for married taxpayers filing a joint return.
Any home that will be used as a principal residence will qualify for the credit, provided the home is purchased for a price less than or equal to $800,000.
